Working In Canada Without A Job Offer. IEC – Working Holiday Program

Canada is a great place to work and live. Immigration to Canada may be complex and eligibility criteria for various programs become more complicated. But there is a program called International Experience Canada (IEC) designed to allow youth the opportunity to work in Canada for temporary periods. The IEC selects candidates under three categories:

  • Working Holiday
  • Young Professionals
  • International Co-op

This post is about Working Holiday, which is one of the most popular programs for young people who want to work in Canada because the program does not require a job offer to qualify.

Foreign workers, students and other individuals who are between the ages of 18 and 35 from certain countries who meet the requirements may apply for this working holiday visa. Participants in this program can receive an open work permit, valid for one to two years. Open work permits allow participants to work anywhere in Canada for almost any Canadian employer.

NOTE: Applicants from some countries will not be able to apply if you are over the age of 30. Contact Konan Immigration Law Firm to find out if you are eligible to this program.

The working holiday visa is relatively easy to obtain. You are eligible if your age meets the minimum requirement, you can provide proof of citizenship and residence in your country of origin and you don’t have any medical or criminal issues causing inadmissibility.

This program is ideal for individuals who do not have a job offer. The program lets working for more than one employer in Canada and in more than one location.

The IEC working holiday program has an entirely online application, based on a lottery system. Once the program opens, applicants can submit a profile into a ‘pool’ for their country of citizenship. Draws take place at “regular intervals”, where candidates are selected at random to receive an invitation to apply for a work permit, until all places are filled for the year. These are called rounds of invitations.

The quota and dates of the first and final rounds of invitations will be updated, as this information becomes available. At least five days notice is provided by IRCC before the first round of invitations, and final round of invitations. Several rounds of invitations may take place between the first and last rounds.

The program has limits on the number of work permits issued each year. IRCC may issue a very small number of Invitations to Apply after the final round takes place, so act fast & contact us now!
