Open Work Permit is another type of Temporary Residence Program, that allows a foreign national who desires to work within the territory of Canada for a specified period of time. A foreign national who wishes to apply for an open work permit may do so either from outside of Canada, at a Canadian port of entry, or within Canada.
There are two types of Open Work Permits under the said program. First is the unrestricted one, which permits a foreign national to work at any location and in any field of work. The second type is restricted setting out a limitation on what kind of work the holder may be allowed to engage in; it likewise sets out in which part of Canada they may be allowed to work.
A foreign national is eligible for Canadian Open Work Permit Program if they fall under any of the exemptions provided for in the Labour Market Impact Assessment requirement.
